Each stem bears multiple (up to 9) tuber shaped, 5 cm (2") large bicolour flowers (the half of the flower attached to the stem is yellow and the outer half is reep red).
The bulbs should be lifted and re-planted in fresh soil (where no bulbs had been plante before) every 4 to 5 years. The spontaneous production of bulbils is low.
Propagation from seeds: use a mix of equal parts of compost, vermiculite and river sand. Cover this mix with a thin layer of river sand. Place one seed every 4 cm (1 1/2") and cover seeds with sand. Do not remove the forming bulbils before 2 years, to allow their normal development.
Bulbs grown from seeds will produce flowers on the third or fourth year.
