Nectarine trees are small to medium sized short-lived trees, only living for about 12 years. They are often grafted onto other rootstocks, which "technically" controls their maximum height. Pruning is the major determinant of tree height in most cases, though. These trees require pruning and thinning for consistent, quality crops. For thinning, hand-thin the tree about 4 weeks after full bloom. For pruning, remember that the fruit grows only on the first year growth, so prune heavily each year.
