However, do not collect from the wild. It is endemic to only a few counties in Southern Kentucky and Northern Tennessee and is named for the Cumberland Plateau. That region was one of the first areas west of the Appalachians to be settled (by Europeans) and the plant has barely hung under centuries of agricultural pressure, and more recently suburban residential development. Ironically, it is not difficult to grow.
