The Englerias usually have larger, flatter rosettes that are distinctly silver in colour (very similar in appearance to the encrusted or silver saxifrages). The flower stems usually grow taller than the Kabschia, 3-5", with nodding clusters of small, mostly pink to purple-red flowers. The telling feature however, is the flower stem itself...it is covered in dense, 1/2" reddish-purple hairs! This feature is more showy than the flowers themselves. Saxifraga porophylla is native to limestone screes on the Italian Alps. Provide well-drained soil, lime and protection from hor afternoon sun.
