It has been in my Zone 6a yard in the Midwest 20 years and was 1 - 2” caliper when planted. It is in full sun with southwest exposure and hot, humid weather in the summer and the color remains gorgeous all summer. I have never had any problems with reseeding, growing grass, or even a single branch reverting to green. The only pruning I ever did was limbing it up. I do not know how other plants would do if planted closer to it. The nearest plant is the Crimson King Maple about 30 feet away. I have no idea how this tree can be related to the common Norway Maple species. None of the problems associated with the species have been inherited by this sport. My experience, however, is limited to this one tree with excellent drainage.

Our Princeton Maple is still young. This year it has turned green and the leaves look withered. Can you give any advice?

This tree becomes a pest through self-sowing. (The leaf color isn't inherited.) The thirsty roots make it hard to grow other plants around it.

Planting is prohibited in Massachusetts and Connecticut. This tree invades and impoverishes natural habitat in eastern North America and the Pacific Northwest.
