The apples are green with russeting, rather small, and quite round. Eaten right off the tree they don't show their true potential, but after being stored indoors in a cool place for a couple of weeks, these have the most amazing flavor. They are crisp, rich, sweet and tart at the same time - a perfect eating apple. Since it is a tip bearer, some sites say it is not suitable for use as an espalier. It is one of the oldest English apple varieties grown.
