I planted two of these and so far they are doing well. In fact, in just a short amount of time, both have new growth on them!
I planted one near a red cedar and under a doug fir canopy on an east facing slope, near the top. It is mostly in shade with some dappled sun in the morning hours. It has pine needles as natural mulch in that area.
The other one is also on the east facing slope but more north and lower on the slope than the first one. It is under a canopy of doug firs and a maple and near sword ferns. It too gets mostly shade but some dappled sun but this one gets the dappled sun in the late afternoon, early evening. It is in an area that gets nice layer of decayed vegetation. This one looks to have some deer nibbles on a few of the leaves but none are missing so hopefully it decided it wasn't that fond of it when there is so much other yummy things for it to eat around here and will leave it alone...we shall see! The other one hasn't been touched by deer but is probably in an area that a deer would likely not go.
