Seeds don't ripen all at once, but progressively along the scorpioid. To collect, either watch carefully and pick out, or tie an ankle stocking over scorpioid when most florets pollinated. In suitable climates, it reseeds at the drop of a Ritz cracker.
May 30, 2013: I have volunteers which I believe to be F1 hybrids of this plant and a H. arborescens "Sweet Heaven" I had growing with it last year. The leaf form is more like the latter. The scorpioid resembles the former, but the florets are visibly larger. No detectable fragrance, but the plant is very young.
