Because they do not commonly become hazard trees or self-sow weedily, the seedless Freeman maple cultivars are much superior to silver maple in an urban or suburban setting. I don't know why anyone would plant a silver maple when they could grow a Freeman maple, unless they're restoring a forest.
There are several cultivars, the product of deliberate hybridization. Some are seedless.
