I prefer cultivars with wider segments and deeper color. 'The Giant' is widely offered, and more to my taste. It's also sturdier.

Colchicums can be more expensive than other types of bulbs, but they are definitely worth it. And the bulbs are large, so you get several flowers per bulb.

They do tend to fall over after a day or two outside, but still look good when flopped! Inceases very well here in St John's Newfoundland; I lift and replant every two to three years
