In Texas, it blooms from March through June. The inflorescence is covered in minute hairs. It readily self-seeds forming colonies. The genus in the synonym name is named after Barton Warnock who was a prominent West Texas botanist. The species name scuttelarioides refers to its resemblance to the skullcaps. It is suitable for cultivated gardens that have good drainage and it provides nectar for adult butterflies. Plant the seeds in the fall.
