It is found in Arizona in Yuma County, in southeastern Pima County, and in Greenlee, Santa Cruz, and Cochise Counties; in New Mexico near Santa Rita, Grant County; in Texas only in the Franklin Mountains in El Paso County; and northern Sonora and Chihuahua, Mexico. Resinleaf brickellbush grows in gravelly, sandy, limestone soils and in igneous rock soils (granitic) on rocky slopes, in boulder crevices and on arroyos in mixed desert shrublands. The Texas populations are under threat from residential and commercial expansion around El Paso. Its Global Status is G2 (imperiled), U. S. Status National Status is N1N2 and its Texas State Rank is S1 critically imperiled.
