When first open the colour is as close to black as I have seen in a sunflower especially in a plant with red tones but the brown toned ones dont seem to get as dark. This sunflower is excellent for cutting and is one of my favourites for its growth and beauty.

Moulin Rouge is a very nice albeit unusual sunflower...... the darkest color in any sunflower..... at least that's what I've heard,,,,,...Read More,, its is certainly the darkest I've ever seen,,,,,,,,, very dark chocolate mahogany to dark purple black to darkest scarlet like dried blood..... excuse the description This is a richly colored sunflower that blends nicely with lighter colored sunflowers or plants...... plants will be even darker in part shade..... the flowers have a velvety sheen and the discs are black....... not small disc but not large...... nice size flowers are held atop fairly tall plants...... this is a healhty strong growing sunflower..... It's one I grow often....... highly recommended.......
