"Calochortus tolmiei, pussyears, is found mostly on the outskirts of The Cedars, as in the picture. It replaces C. amabilis (Diaogenes Lantern) in slightly cooler, moister sites. It is one of the 3 species that occur in The Cedars as well, but is restricted to the Northern drainages of the Wheatfield Fork Gualala River. There it can occur alongside C. raichei, but the two have distinct flowering periods and I have never seen a hybrid. However when C. tolmiei occurs with C. amabilis, hybrids do very rarely occur."
