It is a superb native shade tree and a superb native tree for wildlife - the berries provide excellent food for birds and other wildlife, and the branches shelter sone wildlife. The reddish berries are among the best in central and southern Florida for wildlife. It is great for areas near and on the coasts of central and southern Florida and the Keys. The tree is salt as well as drought-tolerant in some ways. In Florida, it is found from Brevard County south along the east coast through Indian River, St. Lucie, Martin, Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe counties through the Keys. This tree is often sold in native plant nurseries in central and southern Florida and is one of central and southern Florida's best native trees and shrubs. The tree is indentified by it's small, rounded leaves and small, red berries. It should be encouraged for landscaping throughout coastal central and southern Florida and the Keys!
