It is a vigorous plant that may form large clumps of several pseudobulbs that will require some care (some may read this as "it produces many, many new plants by cuttings"). The pseudobulbs are ovate to cylindrical, thick, bearing one hard and erect leaf. The plant may reach 50 cm tall. The flowers come from the top of the stem, in inflorescences bearing up to 7 big flowers. These flowers have erect petals and sepals, giving it a star shape. Plus, they are broad, but folded backwards, turning it's general design somewhat shocking. The petals, however, may lose this shape depending on the plant. The color varies from pale pink to white. The lip has a dark spot that may be purple, fuchsia or red. Both petals and lips have specially crisped margins. Flowers are fragrant, and can be over 10cm across.
This plant comes from the subtropical climate of the mountains of the southeastern brazilian states, and as such, needs moderate temperatures, high moisture and some humidity. The medium can be bark bits, or fiber, and fertilizing it once in a while may help it to bloom.
