The flowers are big, single, with more or less than 6 petals, pale yellow and very fragrant. The fruit is a dry cone that detaches its outer layer from the central axis when ripe, revealing red seeds.
It is very tropical, and its difficult to cultivate even here in Rio de Janeiro, where once in a while it gets too cold for it. It needs a well drained soil, but very high moisture and organic matter. A majestic tree that will not grow in any garden.
