I only found out today what it is called, but it seems to do very well here in NZ north island. We have only the occasional light frost here.

I have been told by a commercial greenhouse manager that he had success with the plant continuing to grow when he cut off the seedheads after they ripened, leaving just a five foot stalk. He said the trunk sprouted new leaves almost immediately.
