This is an erect herb, or semi-herbaceous brancheless plant. The single stem grows up to 1 meter tall. It has large, medium green, shiny leaves. The inflorescences are erect, 20cm long, decorated by red bracts with yellow tips, and short, tubular, tellow flowers, excelent for hummingbirds.

This plant likes light shade, high moisture, rich organic soil, and high temperatures. Great for darker corners, where it brings great colors when blooming.
