This a high altitude palm and actually does better in N coastal CAlifornia where it never gets hot. Golden Gate Park has a nice specimen that is probably gonna be really tall someday. Most here in So Cal may be doomed to hot, dry winds that will eventually kill it off once it outgrows its protection. Are 6-8 species of wax palm and most all have pure white, ornamentally ringed trunks covered with a thin coating of wax. Incredible trees! Slow growing, at first- may take a couple decades to form a trunk... but then they grow pretty fast.
My experience with a 5 gal seedling is that is faster grower than I expected, putting out a new leaf 4-5x a year (fast for palms here). So far, though only getting morning sun, hasn't seemed even the least bit phased by our 110F days for the last two summers. Even had 3 days over 115, and one up to 120F, and still no signs of heat stress!! I have it planted between two Italian Cypress and a concrete wall.. .but eventually it will have to bare it's leaves to the elements. For now it is a perfectly beautiful specimen and has looked great from day one. No brown tipping, no signs of cold or heat damage... more should try this palm!!
