Grows fairly quickly (in my eyes, but I work with some extremely slow and miniature Euphorbia ...Read Morespp.) when regularly watered, and can handle the worst of California's winters. (By which I mean torrential rain for most of a month, followed by frost, followed by more rain) This astonishingly is even able to freely set seed, germinate, and grow to maturity at our nursery in Berkeley, CA. All outdoors, no greenhouse required! Seeds usually sprout in fall, or spring if it actually rains. I'd be shocked if clandestina doesn't naturalize in this state in my lifetime.

Unless supported, plant will continue to topple and break apart. Eventually branches. The leaves are small, only near the top and have a turquoise coloration and a strong keel to them. From a distance they give the plant a look of having a hair head. The plant is a columnar knobby user-friendly attractive plant that gets some nice red in the winter. REsponds well to watering- never rotted one of these- well, cancel that statement... rotted a few now... can't handle constant dripping water from above (so don't plant it under other plants). Flowers are small and green to maroon at the tips, showing up at top of plant between the knobs. Handles some frost without problems. Tends to get leggy and weak if grown in full shade... definitely prefers full sun. From South Africa.
