The current offering of Shumway's Giant is a different melon. It is easier to grow than Old Time Tennesee, has a harder shell and is not highly suceptible to critter damage. The largest I have grown is 27 lbs, but because of its large seed cavity, this was a 2 foot diameter melon. They are light for their physical appearance. Flavor is nothing to write home about, but they do generate a lot of attention.
