This is a ground bromeliad from humid forests of Brazil, specially common in altitudes of 800-1000 meters.
The leathery an...Read Mored slightly spiny leaves are green on the upper side and pale/grey on the lower one. They are arranged in a long, tubular rosette where it acumulates water, and reachs up to 50cm tall.
From the center of this rosette comes the inflorescence. It´s covered with tiny white hairs (trichomes), and it´s protected by salmon colored bracts. The flowers are long, with salmon sepals and two-colored petals, deep blue on the tips, turning gradually bright green. Not satisfied with all those colores together, it has bright yellow anthers on the top of green stamens. The effect caused by the salmon/blue/green/yellow is just fabulous! And the flowers might atract hummingbirds.
This is a ground species from humid forests, so it will like constantly moist, organic soil. It will live well both in full shade or light shade, but not under full sun. It can be propagated by dividing the rhyzome.
