I'm new to this area (85367 Yuma, AZ) I purchased my reed orchid from Target. After reading the info from Dave's Garden today it look...Read Mores like this will be a house plant. There's no other way to keep it always warm and also just give it a couple hours of sun per day. I've had it about a month (inside when the weather turns cold) and have a couple new shoots on the bottom. I think, next time I want to buy a plant I'll check out the sight first, because I really don't want house plants. This is a good place to get good information. Glad to be here. Katie

You can cultivate this orchid with your eyes closed, but I wouldn´t recomend it - you have to keep an eye, because it grows a lot with new pseudobulbs coming from the base or the top of the plants all the time, so at some point you might have to control it. I am giving out buds to everyone, since it invades the "territory" of my other orchids.

The flowers comes from an apical inflorescence that can last almost an entire year, with new flowers coming from the top. The flowers per se can last 3 days. They are small, pink (my cultivar), white, red, or variations between those, always with white callousities on the labellum.

My only recomendations is to keep it always warm, at least with light shade, and at most a few hours of direct sun light.
