this is my first perennial from seed. i started them in a soilless mix indoors. when they had about 4 sets of leaves, i put them out in...Read Moreto the woodlands garden, where they receive full sun in spring, dappled light from may to october, in zone 6a. they grew slowly, blossoming in there 3rd year. each spring i was surprised to see this little plant come back to life. especially this past winter, with temperatures unseasonably cold, -60 to -30 degrees F., for 7-10 days straight. so i was positively surprised when this little one survived when other larger plants died.
i recommend columbines to those who are 'seed challenged' :-) . i mostly stick with eeeeeasy seeds such as cosmos, zinnia's, hollyhocks etc.... so if i can grow this, so can you.
