Cucamonga used to be famous for growing potatoes. William Whitfield, an early pioneer homesteader, even sent his "white elephant" potatoes to the 1893 Chicago World's fair. They grew cherries at 22nd street--about the only crop "Cucamonga area" failed at was trying to grow cranberries in Etiwanda and Cajon bogs.
