Grows to 3.5 feet or slightly more. The flowerheads are arranged in a semidouble row, single florets large, sepals serrate. Pink, or blue on a very acid soil with aluminum sulfate. Foliage is not very attractive and subject to chlorosis. Eisvogel means "kingfisher."
