A tiny but stunning plant isn't often seen in a garden situation. The flowers were once collected as a dye alternative to saffron, both for hair and cloth.
It was thought that cattle and sheep grazing near the plant broke their bones and was also a cause of foot rot in sheep. Not true, but it might grow in areas which is ideal for the bacteria that causes foot rot thrives.
