The canna currently being sold here in Australia in little plastic bags in hardware stores, labelled "J.B.Vandershoot" is not this canna.
Another spotted canna by the name of "Professeur M. Holtz" is also often sold as "J.B. Vandershoot" or "J.B. Vander Schoot" (spellings both incorrect). The professor has frilly, well formed flowers of bright canary yellow, spotted with smaller crimson spots than the one illustrated here.
The Professor has lost his title and is also still available from one or two old nurseries under the name "M. Holtz".
