The ...Read Morestems are fragrant and are very strong when young however they turn brittle with age. The bark of large stems can take on a twisted, flakey appearance that can be quite decorative. My only complaint is that they can indeed cause allergic reactions so if you have allergies in autumn then be cautious, it may be this plant. I had to remove 4 large specimens that had volunteered in my yard because of it, one of which reached about 6ft tall and nearly as wide. These plants need no supplemental watering in the Antelope Valley and will freely self seed. Seedlings are difficult to pull but I haven't had a problem with simply cutting them at ground level.
Overall, I love the appearance of these plants but I prefer to admire them from a distance.
