a residence in santa rosa, cal. has a 5 foot specimen growing in a well watered lawn. it had set a lot of seeds, and i was able to get 6...Read More seedlings. they are really slow growing. after planting them out of two gallon containers in various locations at my place, they are starting to get somewhere. lots of water in summer helps. if you dont water them they will survive, but just sit there. some fertilizer helps, but dont over- do it. could make for a sensitive plant come the winter frosts. half of my youngsters had "spear pull" come winters end, but all recovered .
i'm also growing two very small youngsters of T. campestris.
even though the little things have dicotomously branched into two heads, i have no hopes for this species getting off the ground much in my lifetime. has to be the world's slowest palm.
