Other websi...Read Moretes claim that you can propagate by direct sow in the spring and fall. I've tried both, plus tried growing them in a pot which is watered more. Have not tried to divide the rootball yet. Nor do any of the dropped seeds sprout. Not sure what else to try....

Discovered that it should be easy to propagate and am excited to share the seeds with the out of state friend who wanted the plant. It is very hardy with long lasting blooms that lighten from reddish orange to yellow with age. The blooms have lasted 3 months so far this summer.

This plant has exceeded my expectations. I put it in the ground in June, and by late July it was setting buds, and has been blooming now...Read More for over 3 weeks. The leaves stay fresh looking, dark green to almost a smokey purple, the stems are purple. The flowers each last over a week in their original bi-color, then fade to a more golden color. The plant is in full sun and is mostly upright with slight amount of sprawling with the lower branches. It has drawn pollinating wasps. This is a lovely cultivar of a wonderful golden yellow native plant.
