A giant, coarse-leafed perennial to 8' tall, for the prairie garden. Basal leaves can reach 10" across, shaped like a sycamore (Platanus...Read More), silvery underneath. Stems are strong, vertical, purple, unbranched except near the top. Flowers in large panicles at the top, with disc flowers only, not exceptionally showy.
This is a facultative wetland plant in the wild, but adapts well to medium moist garden soil.
Its native range extends from southeast Minnesota to coastal Alabama and east to New Jersey.
