At Longwood Gardens this mum is grown for about 20 months from a single rooted cutting in a 4 inch pot. From the one stem cutting, it is carefully pinched over many months to produce as many stems as it can to achieve the most flowers, just 1 flower per stem as possible. In 2015, this single trunk mum had 1,509 blooms on it.
This Thousand Bloom Chrysanthemum is in a display at Longwood Garden's Chrysanthemum Festival held yearly. It is the highlight of their spectacular Chrysanthemum show.
According to Longwood Garden's website, the Chrysanthemum Festival features "more than 16,000 chrysanthemums nurtured and trained by our horticulture experts to resemble clouds, balls, spirals, columns, pagodas, and even a fountain of cascading fall blooms."
