Should prove adaptable in subtropical and temperate regions. It has performed well at Mount Annan, NSW Australia in moist, well-drained soils and a semi-shaded position. The plant pictured is just over 15 years old.
In my opinion the scent, which can be smelt several metres from the tall open woody shrub on warm humid day, is similar to that of a cheap bathroom air freshener block, or recently painted room. So if you looking for fragrance, you might be best searching for another plant, such as Phaleria clerodendron, or if you're short on space, a Brunfelsia jamaicensis
