It can grow in full sun but does best in dappled shade, and likes to be mulched. It is frost tender. It is also said to be suitable for seaside gardens. It may never flower, but if it does this is likely to be in winter, with stunning lilac flowers, but flowering is sometimes a prelude to its imminent demise - which may be a myth, but cuttings can be taken just in case. It is possible to grow from seed.
