It retains its bright red flesh color when poached ("when cooked resembles a dish of blood" according to Hayward Wright, who introduced it!). It crops very heavily, and is notably resistant to bacterial diseases. Self fertile (Hopping & Jerram 1979), pollenized by 'cherry plum'.
