I was afraid they might have a disease, so I didn't bring them into the yard right away. I got bigger pots with all new dirt, and cut off all the dead and discolored branches. What I had left was two pots with about six inch stubs sticking up. They flourished. I still waited until spring before adding them to the yard.
Those have been the most beautiful two bushes, blooming from Spring to Frost with loads of blooms. and the foliage is gorgeous. I do have to cut them back in the fall, otherwise they would take up the whole yard. Still, they are about 4 feet wide and way past my 5'4" height every summer.
The only problem I've had was when it was very a very hot, damp spell here in Southeast Texas they are suspectibe to fungus. I sprayed them with copper sulfate and that took care of it
