As with the species, the chartreuse flowers are very showy, appearing before the leaves in mid-spring.
In other respects, too, this cultivar is like the species. It's a tough, adaptable, hardy, small maple that deserves to be much more commonly planted. A good tree for urban conditions, and one that tolerates the heat and drought of the southeastern US. Tolerates alkaline soils, it requires only good drainage. Withstands wind and ice storms.
It's single-trunked but without pruning it tends to be naturally low-branched, and grows as wide as tall.
