Part of th...Read Moree largeness is due to the way they open nearly flat after about a week. They have very short stems, however so they don't make great cut flowers (though one or two in a small vase is a nice tabletop accent). They last long and come up yearly (I've had some for five years now). They seem to do fine with summer drought too (probably similar to their native habitat). The leaves are very nice too, which are a light green with flashes and spots of maroon.
These are also classifed as T. Kaufmanniana - I'll check them out when I have all the characteristics in evidence. I have some T. greigii that are just starting to bloom.
These are the most expensive tulips I've bought (3-4 $ each). Though last year I got some at less than half price in late November, past their normal planting time. But with unusually warm weather I put them in in February in an outdoor container (these are the first ones that bloomed). I kept them chilled since I purchased them.
