I had a semi-shaded spot, but the azalea turned greenish and lost its nice red color. Putting it in full sun did not agree with it either, it did not like the heat. I now have it in an area where it is happy. It gets shade part of the day. It is now the nice burgundy color that I bought it for (think Barberry, but evergreen, what is not to like). For me it is a very slow grower with tidy compact shape (12-18" after 3 years) that combines nicely with annuals and perennials. It looks good all year round. It blooms a dark wine red to hot pink, but I grow it mainly for the foliage and cut off the flowers. Sold at Lowes and/or Home Depot here.
