It is more plum-like than cherry and has sweet flesh with a tart skin. Nickel-size fruit is a deep red, turning purple. Good for fresh-eating and making jams and jellies; it is also a pollinator for other cherry plums. it can be pollinated by Hansen's bush cherry (P. besseyi).
