Joy Creek Nurseries, one of the few sources of this beauty, to my knowledge, state, "This is one of the many seedlings that Mr. Ozawa selected for trial before his death. His nephew Mr. Chikuma named and released this in 2008. Clematis 'Yugao' (Kazushige Ozawa) was named for a character in the famous ancient novel Tales of Genji. That character was named for the Japanese moonflower. Like so many of Mr. Ozawa's crosses, this is very long blooming. The nodding flowers are bell-shaped and 1.5 inches wide. Their sepals are dark violet at the base fading to pale pink at their tips which are slightly recurved. "
It grows to about 5ft and makes a good companion to the purple 'Roguchi.'
