It grows up to 22 metres in height, and can have a 1 metre diameter trunk. It produces mainly greenish coloured flowers between September and December which are densely covered in a reddish-brown tomentum. Its fruit, when ripe between March and November, are dark purple with a waxy bloom, and are a favourite of our New Zealand Pigeon.
