I've had luck with the 'Rainbow Surprise' cultivar in part sun, so I thought I'd give this a try. My experience with Coprosmas so far is that they grow outward faster than upward; my Rainbow Surprise is 3 years old and about 2-1/2 feet wide but only about 16 inches tall. They appear to be quite frost-tolerant here in zone 9B, but we only get down to around 25F at worst.

Foliage maintains its color through the winter.
