It is very salt tolerant - some plants grow in depressions that get soaked in seawater during stormy spring tides with no apparent ill effect.
It is not the most pretty plant - being quite dull and shrubby with inconspicuously small flowers, but very suitable for stabilizing dunes or sand in desert areas - especially near the coast. It survives temperatures of over 110 F in nature.
