THERESE (Dessert). This very large, double pink Peony has ...Read Morea better rating than any other pink Peony in the world. The plant is of medium height and the first blooms are so very large and heavy that the stems cannot hold them erect, but the bloom is so beautiful that every Peony enthusiast is willing to give the plant all the support necessary to keep the main blooms from touching the ground. After the main blooms have been cut from the plant, the stems are strong enough to support the laterals, or side blooms, and these continue blooming for a week and sometimes even ten days after the main bloom has gone. This variety is higher in price than it was fifteen years ago, and as it is proving a most valuable variety for commercial Peony growers, it will probably maintain its price for several years. $3.50
Per the APS website:
THERESE (Dessert, 1904) - Double - Pink - Midseason. (Wild catalog says Early.) Medium height. Not particularly fragrant. Very large. Enormous, long petals of pale translucent, old-rose pink, paling toward the base and illumined by a golden yellow glow in the depths; floriferous; strong stems. Heavy foliage. Truly splendid in form, texture, and color. It is supreme for exhibition but well-developed flowers are too heavy for the stems outdoors, particularly in wet weather. "The flower fades quickly in bright sunlight."-Fewkes.
