The petal edges have a dark red coloration with the middle being normal red then interior being more pink red. The flowers darken as they age and last a long time. Depending on weather the flowers can vary quite a bit in color. Plants I planted at my folks house in Iowa, zone 5a, had complete kill at -23F. I do not know if it was the severe temps over a long time following summer drought that killed them but they are supposed to be hardy to -30F.
