There are also lots of anecdotal stories of many collectors’ Aspidistra reaching 50 years old and beyond. This hardy plant famously even appeared in the 1936 novel "Keep the Aspidistra Flying" by George Orwell. The leaves of this upright evergreen shrub are shiny, dark green with white specks. They grow 18 to 24 inches tall and my clump is more than 14 inches wide. Aspidistra elatior belongs to the lily family and is native to China and Japan."
