I have sent plants to Florida and even to San Francisco, and the results were positive. So they have a good deal of heat and cold tolerance. Certainly a few degrees below 0 would be my guess, not much else. You will need a male and female plant to get seed. The male has the attractive yellow flower often seen in pictures. The plant will branch on its own but it might not happen until it is 10 feet tall like one of mine. If you want it to branch earlier, you can cut the growing point and multiple new growing points will appear. Meryta balansae likes water and organic soils. It does not like being grown in pots but can be kept small by leaving it in a smaller pot. Inside it makes a great houseplant if you can keep the bugs off it. Mites love this plant.
